What changes
Deletion removes or anonymizes email, username, display name, avatar, active room follows, user follows, private-room memberships, mute/block relationships, pending magic links, and current sign-in state.
Avatar images and uploads that are not attached to retained messages are removed before the account is anonymized. If storage cleanup is temporarily unavailable, deletion does not proceed and can be retried.
Deletion also closes connected services and room memberships. Confirmation from a connected service may delay completion. If that happens, your account stays signed in and you can return to continue deletion once the pending step is resolved.
What may remain
Public messages, reports, moderation records, community aura events, and audit logs may retain internal deleted-user references where needed for abuse prevention, legal obligations, security investigations, or conversation continuity. Images attached to those retained messages follow the same retention period.
Personal information in retained content
Removing your account name does not necessarily anonymise message text or images. For erasure or redaction requests, email [email protected] with the relevant content location. We assess applicable rights and lawful retention exceptions and explain any refusal. Public posting does not waive your privacy rights.
